Room planning 01

Courts, bleachers, and operating modes

Plan physical education, competition, assemblies, and community use around the actual gym layout.

XL AV reviews court markings, retractable bleachers, divider curtains, ceiling height, audience positions, and the activities held in the gym. The same room may need instruction during the day, announcements and scoring for games, and presentations for assemblies. Each activity has different sources, levels, and operator requirements.

We define the required modes and identify who prepares and operates them. Floor connections, equipment locations, and controls are coordinated with circulation, sports equipment, and maintenance access. Existing audio, scoreboards, and building systems are assessed before determining the upgrade scope.

Room planning 02

Speech coverage in a reverberant gym

Direct useful sound toward listeners and address reflections, building noise, and changing occupancy.

Read moreShow less about Speech coverage in a reverberant gym

Hard floors, walls, and high ceilings can produce long reverberation that reduces announcement clarity. Crowd noise and mechanical systems add competing sound. We review the room acoustics, microphone positions, and loudspeaker coverage together. Acoustic treatment or facilities changes may be required alongside the AV system.

Loudspeaker aiming considers the court, bleachers, and other occupied areas. Appropriately designed zones and fill loudspeakers can serve different layouts. Their timing and levels are coordinated. An empty gym and an occupied event behave differently, so acceptance checks account for the agreed conditions.

Room planning 03

Microphones, DSP, and room tuning

Support moving teachers, announcers, and assembly presenters with controlled gain and practical routines.

Wearable, handheld, and fixed microphones are selected for teaching, announcements, and presentations. Wireless planning includes available frequencies, antenna placement, batteries, and movement across the intended floor and bleacher areas. Microphone technique and handover procedures are included in training.

DSP configuration covers source routing, equalization, level limits, appropriate protection, and room presets. Feedback mitigation starts with microphone and loudspeaker placement and useful gain structure. Equalization can adjust system response but does not remove long reverberation. We check speech and programme audio in each agreed operating mode.

Video Scoreboards and Media Walls

Plan video scoreboards, media walls, and large format video displays for scores, clocks, graphics, and assembly presentations.

Read moreShow less about Video Scoreboards and Media Walls

Video scoreboard and media wall planning considers display location, sightlines, bleacher geometry, nearest viewers, and the content that must be readable. Scores and clocks need clear layouts; presentation text may require different sizing. We review sample content and any obstructions from baskets, curtains, or equipment.

For indoor ball-impact applications, XL AV evaluates LUXVISION PROLUX Rugged. Published pitches include 3.3 mm and 4.0 mm. Impact-resistant modules, protective trim, mechanically secured modules, and front-service access address requirements relevant to gyms. The installed configuration, mounting, protection, and applicable manufacturer terms are confirmed during design.

The scoring workflow starts with the sports played and the required scores, periods, fouls, timers, or shot clocks. Interfaces and data formats are confirmed with the selected scoring equipment. A video scoreboard requires an agreed content and scoring workflow, including the operator station and source priorities.

Game horns, announcements, music, and video playback need coordinated routing and operating levels. Staff controls should make routine tasks clear and limit unintended changes. We test scoring updates, clock behaviour, source selection, and the return to assembly or teaching modes with the agreed equipment.

Room planning 06

Music, assemblies, and presentation sources

Coordinate playback, guest laptops, temporary microphones, and any event production connections.

Programme audio for physical education, competitions, and assemblies may come from installed players, staff devices, or guest equipment. We specify accessible connection points and source selection suited to those uses. Device compatibility, cable paths, and input levels are checked.

Assemblies can require additional microphones, presentation switching, camera views, or performance inputs. Temporary equipment connections are defined separately from the daily staff controls. The scope identifies which event functions are permanently installed and which are provided through an agreed temporary setup.

Room planning 07

Lighting and live video

Plan visibility, camera capture, display brightness, and useful event scenes alongside normal gym operation.

Read moreShow less about Lighting and live video

Lighting scenes may need to support physical activity, spectator events, examinations, and presentations. We coordinate the intended AV functions with the lighting and building teams. Required sports lighting and emergency lighting remain subject to the responsible project specialists.

Live video or streaming requires camera positions, lens coverage, source switching, and appropriate audio feeds. Fixtures and camera settings are checked for visible flicker, while display brightness is adjusted for the room. Recorded and remote audiences may need a different audio balance from the people in the gym.

Room planning 08

Controls, zones, and accessibility

Give staff clear room modes and coordinate divided courts, assistive listening, and supported building interfaces.

Read moreShow less about Controls, zones, and accessibility

Divider curtains can change room use without creating acoustically isolated spaces. We define microphone and playback zones for the intended teaching arrangements and test sound spill. Combining zones should be deliberate, with controls that show the active room mode.

Staff interfaces can cover microphone levels, music, source selection, display operation, and supported lighting scenes. Accessible control locations and assistive listening requirements are reviewed with the institution and project specialists. Building announcements or other priority interfaces require an explicitly agreed integration scope.

Room planning 09

Instant replay and game highlights

Capture key plays and route replay clips to the LED display, livestream, or recording.

Read moreShow less about Instant replay and game highlights

Instant replay requires a capture and playback workflow alongside the display. We plan camera angles, recording channels, storage throughput, replay controls, and video-switcher connections for the sport and available operators. A single programme recording and independently recorded camera feeds provide different replay options.

Operators need a clear way to mark a play, review the clip, select an angle, play it at the supported speed, and return to live coverage. We define whether replay appears on the gym display, the stream, or both. Score and clock visibility, audio routing, clip retention, and competition policies are coordinated with the venue. The selected replay equipment and operator workflow are tested together.

Room planning 10

Coaching and training on the display

Use practice footage, demonstrations, diagrams, and annotated presentations for team instruction.

Read moreShow less about Coaching and training on the display

A gym video display can support coaching sessions with recorded drills, technique demonstrations, tactical diagrams, and practice footage. Presentation connections allow a coach to share a laptop, supported tablet, document camera, or video source. The design considers viewing positions on the floor, readable detail, sound playback, and simple source selection.

Where required, capture and review tools can support pause, frame-by-frame review, supported slow motion, and annotation. Those functions depend on the selected playback and presentation equipment. We plan how practice clips are recorded, transferred, organized, and accessed, then test the coaching workflow. The organization defines participant permissions and storage policies.

Room planning 11

Live streaming of games

Connect cameras, commentary, scoring graphics, replay, and encoding for the online audience.

Read moreShow less about Live streaming of games

Game streaming can combine wide court coverage, closer camera views, commentary, score graphics, and replay. Camera positions and lens choices follow the court layout and intended production style. We define the number of operators, switching controls, monitoring, and programme output before selecting the equipment.

The streaming audio mix may need commentary, selected announcements, and controlled crowd sound rather than the same feed used by the gym loudspeakers. We coordinate audio/video synchronization, encoder formats, network capacity, destination requirements, recording, and restart procedures. The customer establishes streaming accounts, participant permissions, and any applicable content or competition rights.

Room planning 12

Advertising, sponsorships, and project funding

Plan sponsor recognition and paid display inventory that can contribute to project funding or operating revenue.

Read moreShow less about Advertising, sponsorships, and project funding

An LED display can carry sponsor logos, timed advertisements, event-title recognition, and approved messages between game segments. The content layout must preserve required scores and clocks when those remain active. We define presentation templates, scheduling, source priorities, and the operator steps for displaying sponsorship content.

The facility can develop sponsorship packages based on events, seasons, or scheduled display periods. Revenue potential depends on the audience, available inventory, sponsor interest, sales effort, and programme costs. The organization owns pricing, agreements, and content approval. Playback logs can help verify agreed delivery where supported. Sponsorship income can contribute to a funding plan without assuming it will cover the project cost.

Room planning 13

Emergency broadcast messaging

Plan approved visual alerts and source overrides with the facility’s emergency-management team.

Read moreShow less about Emergency broadcast messaging

An LED display can show approved emergency instructions or urgent facility messages through a compatible content and control system. We coordinate authorized triggers, message templates, source priority, affected displays, and the process for clearing the alert with the facility’s responsible teams. Required interfaces are confirmed with the existing notification platform.

The design considers display power state, network dependencies, operator authorization, readable content, and behaviour during equipment faults. Drills and acceptance checks verify the agreed trigger and restoration sequence. Visual messaging supplements the facility’s approved emergency communication arrangements; any required life-safety integration is defined and reviewed by the responsible specialists.

Room planning 14

E-gaming tournaments and esports presentation

Route gameplay, commentary, brackets, and event graphics to audience displays and streaming destinations.

Read moreShow less about E-gaming tournaments and esports presentation

A gym can host esports or e-gaming tournaments with player stations, audience seating, commentary, and a presentation or production position. We define how gameplay feeds, tournament brackets, player information, cameras, and event graphics reach the LED display and stream. Large audience displays and player displays serve different viewing tasks.

Player stations require the appropriate performance and connections for competitive play. The audience video path is planned separately, with formats, refresh rates, capture compatibility, and delay evaluated against the selected equipment. We coordinate commentary and game audio, network responsibilities, temporary power and cable routes, operator controls, and changeover back to sport or teaching.

Room planning 15

Digital signage and facility information

Use the LED display for schedules, announcements, event directions, and community information between activities.

Read moreShow less about Digital signage and facility information

Outside game operation, the LED display can publish practice schedules, facility hours, upcoming events, welcome messages, and approved school or community information. A compatible signage player and content-management workflow can schedule material and support shared or local publishing responsibilities.

We plan text sizes for the viewing distances, content templates, permissions, expiry dates, and screen operating schedules. Live data sources require supported interfaces and ownership of the information feed. Routine signage, sponsor content, scoring, coaching, and emergency messages need an agreed priority and source-change workflow. Representative schedules and recovery after a restart are checked during commissioning.

Room planning 16

Installation, impact exposure, and maintenance

Coordinate structure, cable protection, equipment access, and service around the sports environment.

Displays, loudspeakers, cameras, and controls are located with ball trajectories, sports equipment, circulation, and service access in mind. Mounting loads and supporting structure are reviewed by the responsible specialists. Cables, connectors, and rack locations are planned for the building and intended use.

Maintenance planning includes safe access to high-mounted equipment, display service clearances, cleaning, configuration backups, spare components, and software updates. Manufacturer protection and service requirements are confirmed for the installation. Support coverage and response arrangements are established in the project scope.
